DNA Tests Submitted, Waiting for Results

Today all of our breeding Maine Coons were cheek swabbed and the DNA samples sent off to Wisdom Health (Optimal Selection/MyCatDNA), YAY! We hope to have the results back so we can publish them to our website in the next 3-4 weeks.

We are big fans of Optimal Selection’s user dash board and love that they test for so many genetic health related issues and genetic traits by default (whereas some of the more often used DNA tests seem to be done more à la carte). Our next step after the DNA tests, and before we breed our very first litter, is to get vet specialist appointments for echocardiogram (HCM), ultrasound (PKD), and X-ray (HD) for each breeding cat, but we have to wait until they are closer to 1 year of age.

Keep an eye on our King’s and Queen’s pages as we will be updating them once we get the results back.
