I’ve been following the breeding work of Philip & Marjorie Berger of MaineVu since the inception of our cattery and truly admire their many exhibition accomplishments. The Bergers have been breeding Maine Coons since 2008 and have successfully shown their kittens in The International Cat Association (TICA) to Grand Champions, Supreme Grand Champions, Regional Winners, International Winners, and Lifetime Achievement Winners, and to Grand Premier in The Cat Fanciers Association (CFA). Until this past summer when we were honored with their trust in adding Romulus and Venus to our cattery, MainVu has worked exclusively with Amy & Glenn of ABSCatz, Judy & David of MTNest, and Paul & Coleen of Paleeni in the United States, as well as Madinina in France and Snowfield Coon Cattery in China.
Over the last year we have earned the honor and privilege of calling Phil and Margie friends. They are such an authentic and kind couple with decades of knowledge and experience with the Maine Coon breed. We had the pleasure of touring their cattery (which is essentially their lovely and large 3 bedroom home in Cartersville, Georgia) and before officially adopting our first kitten from them, Phil made the drive all the way out to Greenville, South Carolina to visit and tour ours. If anyone has done even a small amount of research into local breeders, you can attest to the fact that offering home visits to North American catteries is a rarity!
For those of you who check our website regularly for updates, you may have already seen a sneak peak of Romulus showing off his stuff at a recent TICA show in Anniston, Alabama, but for those of you who are only now hearing about him because of this blog post, let me go ahead and officially introduce both he and his half sister Venus.
Introducing MaineVu Romulus of LakeViewCoons
SIRE: MTNest J R of MaineVu
DAM: MTNest Josie of MaineVu
Romulus is a black (brown) classic tabby with white. He has a nice long and rectangular body with a lovely shaggy coat. He also has a wonderful boning, a great ear set, and well balanced muzzle. Romulus has already undergone OFA preliminary hip grading and has his OFA Advanced Cardiac with echocardiogram screening pending for when he turns a year old in June. Romulus is the absolute sweetest boy. He is not overly hormonal or stubborn as some intact males tend to be. He has the sweetest and goofiest personality, and does not pick fights with our existing studs. For such a big boy, he has the tiniest, cutest little meow and he isn’t afraid to use it when demanding pets and snuggles.
Pending the all clear from a board certified veterinary cardiologist, Romulus will be added to our breeding program this summer.
Introducing MaineVu Venus of LakeViewCoons
SIRE: MTNest J R of MaineVu
DAM: MaineVu Aja
Venus is a lovely black silver classic tabby with white. She is half sibling to Romulus and shares many similar character traits. She has a nice long rectangular body with equal length to her luscious tail. Her profile and ear set are probably my two absolute favorite traits. She has this elegant and yet fierce look about her. She quickly won our hearts and with that access to sleeping on our pillows and heads at night. Sometimes we wake and she’s sleeping on us as if she’s a live scarf, hahaha! She is the absolute sweetest girl; although, she is equally independent and strong willed. She gives our most senior queens a run for their money.
Similar to Romulus, Venus has already successfully undergone OFA preliminary hip grading and has her OFA Advanced Cardiac with echocardiogram screening scheduled for just after she turns a year old in April. Pending the all clear from a board certified veterinary cardiologist, Venus will be added to our breeding program this Spring.
A HUGE thank you to Margie and Phil Berger and to Judy & David Bernbaum for their trust with access to these pedigree lines. It is an incredible privilege when long time and respected North American breeders show the level of trust each of you has given us. We couldn’t be more honored!
