Before we even decided to begin breeding, we knew that showing would play an integral part of running our cattery, but it wasn’t until we attended our first show that we realized just how fun showing could also be!
We are registered with two different and well known cat associations: Cat Fancier’s Association (CFA) and The International Cat Association (TICA). This means we are eligible to show with both. Since there were cat clubs associated with both fancies that were holding shows in our area over the same weekend, we just needed to decide which of the two shows we would attend.
After much discussion with others in the Maine Coon cat community, we finally settled on attending “It’s TICA Time”, which was hosted in Raleigh, NC. The show had over a dozen judges and spanned two different days. Since the show was scheduled for the week before Mando and Orion turned 5 months of age, it made it easy for us to decide which of our three potential breeding cats to exhibit (in order to enter a kitten into a cat show they need to be between 5-8 months of age).
We are pleased to announce that Lady Callisto was a big hit with both the judges and the crowd in attendance. Three long time, decorated Allbreed judges, with over 50 years combined judging experience, evaluated her and found that she sufficiently meets the standard to be used in our Maine Coon breeding program (TICA Reg. Rule 36.3.1). Being our first show, this was a huge accomplishment for our Cattery and we look forward to the opportunity to bring out the best of the breed with Lady Callisto’s future generations.
